The Patrol Division is responsible for the uniformed patrol functions of the department including 24-hour response to the initial investigation of crimes and incidents, traffic enforcement and control, accident investigation, community policing programs, crime prevention functions, specialized operations such as SWAT and K-9, and coordination for special events. Approximately 200 uniformed police officers and supervisors and 88 civilian personnel are assigned to three geographic districts, seven community policing teams, and other special teams.

Police patrol operations are divided into three geographic districts. Each district is under the command of a police lieutenant, the District Commander. The District Commander is responsible for:

• The deployment of police officers within the district.
• Direct coordination with businesses and neighborhoods.
• Identifying potential problems and developing pro-active responses.
• General problem-solving within the district.
