The Community Outreach Unit reports directly to the Office of the Chief and coordinates the police department public outreach programs and activities, including Crime Prevention and Neighborhood Watch programs and Project Next Step. The basic goal of the unit is to educate the public about the functions and responsibilities of law enforcement and to provide information and direction toward making their lives and property more safe and secure.

CPD also works with the growing ethic community of the Clearwater area through the Hispanic initiative. A comprehensive and multi-faceted program that encompasses everything from crime to economic opportunity to social issues. Among its key components are the creation of an interpreter program consisting of bi-lingual officers and citizen interpreters to assist officers at crime scenes, incidents and accidents, the recruitment of bi-lingual officers, a victim advocacy outreach program, and a domestic violence component specifically for non-English speaking Hispanic residents and families.
